A note from the artist: " In January of this year, I was lucky enough to be in Havana for the Plaza Jazz Festical. Despite the hardships that Cuban people were already facing, the streets, studios, cafes, and music venues were infused with such energy, creativity, and connection. My desire in making art is to interact with these qualities. In these pastel paintings -- set in Cuba and elsewhere -- I try to see and evoke moments of interaction among humans, creatures, places. Since January, Cuba has faced increasingly harsh measures, including shortages of food, medicine, and fuel as well as electrical blackouts. All proceeds from this series go towards the CreatiVrole Project, supporting Cuban creative communities through practical, on-the-ground work. Thank you for interacting with this work!!"
